Rhinoplasty in Miami
For patients in Miami, rhinoplasty is a procedure to mould or reshape the nose, enhancing the nasal proportion as it relates to the other facial features. The surgery may also improve breathing obstructions. Dr. Maercks always considers the entire face when evaluating for nose changes. It is not uncommon to include a subtle genioplasty and or lip enhancement. For the right patient, rhinoplasty, also called a nose job in Miami, can be a life-changing operation. A small cosmetic change in the nose can make a significant impact on one’s appearance and self-confidence. Perhaps that is why more than 250,000 Americans chose to undergo rhinoplasty in 2009, according to the ASPS.
Who Should Consider Rhinoplasty in Miami?
In general, patients who are bothered by the size and/or shape of their nose should consider a rhinoplasty procedure. A nose that is aesthetically balanced will vary for each person, so don’t expect to achieve the same exact results as a friend or another patient.
Rhinoplasty can achieve many different aesthetic goals. There are surgical reshaping techniques for patients with a nose that is:
- Large
- Long
- Wide
- Humped
- Crooked
- Droopy
- Short
- Narrow
The procedure will vary, of course, depending on which cosmetic indication you present for reshaping. Although goals vary, there are general aesthetic traits that many people find appealing, including: balanced width and projection, straight dorsum, narrow tip, small dip between nasal dorsum and tip, and proper angle between nostrils and lips.

The Surgery: How Rhinoplasty Works
Most nose jobs in Miami require two hours or less to complete. Plastic surgeons today are offering two common techniques: open rhinoplasty and closed rhinoplasty. In closed rhinoplasty, Dr. Maercks makes small incisions at the base of your nose, which allows access for careful refining and reshaping of the nasal structure. In open rhinoplasty, the nasal skin is lifted to allow visibility and access for reshaping of the cartilage and bone. For more information about the merits of each technique, ask Dr. Maercks during your consultation.
Life After Rhinoplasty: What to Expect
When the rhinoplasty is finished, you will probably be sent home with a splint on the nose along with some packing within the nose. Some swelling and discomfort should be expected during this time. Dr. Maercks will prescribe medications to help you manage pain during your recovery. After about 1 or 2 weeks, you should be able to return to work or your normal routine. Swelling takes time to subside, but when it does, you can appreciate the changes in your facial appearance.
