Dermabrasion in Miami

Dermabrasion is a skin resurfacing procedure that can treat conditions that reside on the top layers of your skin.  A refreshed appearance is created by removing the outermost layers and causing natural collagen production through the healing process.

Who Should Consider Dermabrasion?

If you are bothered by superficial skin imperfections such as the following, you may be a good candidate for dermabrasion in Miami:

  • Acne scars
  • Lesions
  • Wrinkles
  • Texture irregularities

Dr. Maercks may recommend dermabrasion for you if you have deep skin imperfections that can’t be treated with another method. If you are seeking a treatment for acne scars, dermabrasion may be effective. However, the procedure is best performed when the patient is not experiencing acne breakouts.

The Procedure: How Dermabrasion Works

During dermabrasion, your plastic surgeon scrapes away the top layers of skin using a special dermabrader. With those outermost skin layers, defects and irregularities are also removed. When your skin heals, the surface exhibits a smoother contour.

Life After Dermabrasion in Miami

Patients who have undergone dermabrasion may experience red, swollen skin that tingles or burns. A medication can be prescribed by to help alleviate some of these effects. Within a few days, swelling subsides and a scab or crust forms over the treated area. New skin will then begin to emerge.

A total recovery time of at least two weeks should be expected. It takes time for the final results of dermabasion to be realized, but when the healing process is over, the skin can show a significant improvement.
