Hypertelorism

Hypertelorism is a condition where there is an abnormally large distance between the eyes. Dr. Maercks addresses orbital hypertelorism using advanced techniques and ultrasonic technology to complete these procedures in a minimally invasive manner, reducing swelling and accelerating recovery. The patient pictured below recieved a facial bipartition in which a central wedge of the craniofacial skeleton is removed and the two remaining halves are rotated toward each other to restore a straight occlusal plane of the teeth as well as restoring a normal distance between the eyes. A cartilage graft was also placed in her nose in this first stage operation. After many months to years she will recieve several refinements to further normalize her appearance.
