Chemical Peel - Plastic Surgery FL

Chemical peels can renew your complexion by removing the outermost layers, revealing smoother, brighter skin. They vary in strength, from superficial light peels to strong, deep peels that treat significant sun damage.

Our Miami Beach plastic surgery practice offers a variety of chemical peels, including brand name peels that can achieve predictable results.

Who Should Consider a Chemical Peel in Miami?

A chemical peel in Miami can be formulated for treating a wide variety of skin conditions. Some of the possible indications include:

  • Rough skin
  • Dry skin
  • Acne/blemishes
  • Pigmentation problems
  • Lines and wrinkles
  • Sun damage
  • Some pre-cancerous growths

If you’re considering a chemical peel in Miami, Dr. Maercks can determine a suitable formula that is effective and safe for your particular skin type.

Deep Peels vs. Light Peels

A light peel can treat superficial skin conditions with few, if any, post-treatment effects. Many light peels require about 15 minutes and allow the patient to return to his or her normal routine immediately. Formulas often contain gentle alpha hydroxy acids and beta hydroxy acids.

A deep or medium strength peel is useful for treating coarse facial wrinkles, lines and significant pigmentation problems. The treatment can take up to one hour and patients should expect some downtime. Common formulas contain chemicals such as phenol or trichloarecetic acid (TCA). Deep peels are not usually recommended for patients with dark skin color.

How it Works

Before applying the chemical peel, the doctor cleanses the face, neck and chest. The solution is then carefully applied evenly across the skin. You may initially feel a stinging sensation upon application. The peel is then allowed to penetrate for a specified time.

What to Expect After Your Chemical Peel in Miami

Your post treatment experience will vary depending on the peel Dr. Maercks has recommended for you. With a light peel, you may experience some short term flaking, scaling, dryness or light redness of the skin. A deep peel may require downtime during which your skin will form a crust or scab. The healing process is stimulated and new skin emerges after about one week. Follow the doctor’s instructions during this time, including his recommendations regarding sun protection.
