Cheek Augmentation in Miami
Cheek augmentation procedures may use natural tissues, bone, a facial implant or an injectable filler to increase projection of the cheeks. These procedures are ideal for the treatment of sunken or recessed cheeks caused by aging or caused by inadequate underlying bone structure.Who Should Consider Cheek Augmentation?
It’s common for young people to exhibit a healthy fullness in the cheeks, making their faces appear round or heart-shaped. As facial volume decreases over time, this youthful appearance can be diminished. With cheek augmentation, Dr. Maercks can increase the projection and volume in your cheeks to restore your youthful facial appearance.
Even in some relatively young individuals, the underlying structure of the facial is lacking projection, leading to a sunken cheek area earlier in life. These cases may also be appropriate for correction with cheek augmentation.
You may be a candidate for cheek augmentation in Miami if you exhibit:
- Hollow appearance in the mid-face
- Cheekbone structure that lacks projection
- Wrinkles and flattened cheeks due to weight loss
The Surgical Procedure: How Cheek Augmentation Works
With your preferences and conditions in mind, Dr. Maercks may recommend cheek augmentation with a facial implant or an injectable wrinkle filler. Both methods can provide long-lasting results, but the implant is considered a more permanent solution.

Injectable fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, and other products are provided at our practice, and Dr. Maercks can recommend the best product for your cheek augmentation procedure. Using a topic anesthetic or dental block to control discomfort, the filler is injected beneath the skin of your cheeks to a specific depth. The doctor may then massage the area briefly to ensure a smooth result. Cheek augmentation with a dermal filler can last six months to a few years, depending on the product chosen.
Facial implants are anatomical prosthetics made of silastic, a firm silicone rubber used in many medical applications. The implants are available in shapes and sizes that match your facial structure. When performed as a single procedure, cheek augmentation requires an incision in the upper lip or in the lower eyelid. Within the tissue of your cheeks, Dr. Maercks creates a pocket for the implant and secures it into place with screws or sutures.
Life After Cheek Augmentation in Miami
You will be able to see the increased cheek projection immediately after surgery, but it can take some time for the swelling to fully subside and the long-term results to be realized. After about 3-4 weeks, you should be close to seeing the final results of your cheek augmentation.
